With only 10 days until Elijah’s due date, we are super eager for him to arrive. It has been amazing to receive messages from friends all over the world – South Africa, the States, England, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and South-East Asia – saying, “I have been checking your Facebook page and blog multiple times a day to see if Eli has arrived yet”. It seems that the world is waiting with us, and we are so grateful for all the love and support that all of you have given us!
We have been packed and ready for quite some time now. Our hospital bag started as a small one next to the front door, and over the weeks we kept adding to it. It is now a huge travel suitcase and we haven’t even thrown the last few things in (because we are still using them). It’s insane how much we have to take the hospital. Friends at home – you are very lucky you don’t need to take things like towels, toilet paper, and all the other essentials that we need to pack over here. The best advice I got we packing for a Chinese hospital birth was this, “Pack like you are going on a camping trip!” We have to take all the normal hospital bag goodies AND very normal things that you would never imagine a hospital not providing! Yes, our hospital does not even provide toilet paper – Oh My Goodness!!! Luckily we will have friends coming to visit while we are there for 3-5 days, so we can ask them to bring anything that we run out of (or forget). We are praying for a pleasant hospital stay!
My father, in South Africa, keeps checking to see if we are still waiting. I can’t imagine the day when I finally get to say, “We are going to the hospital NOW!” A couple of days ago he sent me a link to a Youtube video by Three Dog Night, called “Eli’s Coming” (performed in 1975).
That made me giggle!
haha, Dad – You are too funny!
When we visited my cousin in the States back in 2012, and stayed with her as she had her first baby, we were all surprised when Maxine was told at her check up that she was in fact in labor. That was 10 days before her due date. Today we are 10 days until D-Day, and we are heading off to the hospital this afternoon for our check-up! I really am hoping that he comes this weekend. I have been trying all the natural labor-inducing tricks but nothing has triggered any contractions yet!! Who ever imagined that we could be this excited to meet someone that we have never seen before!?
