February 23rd – It is hard to believe that it has already been two years since we got married right here in South Africa, on a beautiful wine farm amongst our family and friends. It feels like just yesterday, and yet somehow two years have flown by in the blink of an eye! It was four years of “just us” and then our lives were forever changed by the birth of our gorgeous baby boy last June. We can’t even describe how thankful we are for all of the experiences and relationships that have been brought into our lives, especially during the last year.
Early this morning, Justin brought me breakfast and a cute note in bed. We had originally planned to visit the wine farm where we got married, and have a picnic there with Elijah. Unfortunately, Eli caught quite a nasty cold on Saturday and he is not completely better yet so we didn’t want to have him out all day. We planned on a simple picnic in the garden instead, but Justin surprised me with a Sushi and Wine date at Simply Asia. We took little man with us and walked to the restaurant which is just up the road. It was a windy but hot day, and with less than two weeks remaining, we didn’t want to miss an opportunity to get out in the good weather.

To make our day even more memorable, we got a call from my brother announcing that he and his girlfriend are engaged. They will be marrying later this year, in North Dakota, and we are over the moon for him and his fiancé. The ceremony will be after the summer so hopefully we will be able to attend their special day! Congratulations Richard and Shauna. This is absolutely fantastic news!!
Here are a few pictures from our anniversary lunch…
We shared some spring rolls and sweet corn cakes as a starter, and as you can see above, Elijah was more than happy chewing on his stick of biltong (dried meat). When the wind picked up a little too much, we moved inside to make sure that Elijah wasn’t too cool.
Yup, that’s right… Elijah is eating his food from my chopsticks.
What can I say? The boy is well-traveled!
We are excited to see what the next year of marriage brings for us. We are praying for another baby, and eagerly awaiting our visit to Texas to see our American side of the family. Elijah has now met his South African family, but he still has a lot of people dying to meet him. We know that we will be in China for another two years, but only time will tell what will come of that time.
We can only hope that the next year is as incredible as the one that just passed!
Here’s to another wonderful year of marriage.
Thank you for the sweet messages and calls today.
