Today I have reached a full 28 weeks pregnant, and going on weeks alone that therefore means I am 7 months pregnant!! That sounds crazy since we are only expecting to meet our little baby in just under 3 months, but that is one of the confusing aspects of pregnancy. Some say that it is 9 months, and others say that it is 10 months. If you are confused, you are not alone. Let me try to explain how this all works…
While most people talk about pregnancy being 9 MONTHS long, health care providers refer to pregnancy as being 40 WEEKS long, starting with your last menstrual period. So while it’s okay to say 9 months, this can be a little confusing to some. Just going on weeks alone, the pregnancy period would equate to 10 months. But technically months are not exactly 4 weeks, in fact, they average at about 4 and 1/3 weeks long since some months have 5 weeks instead of 4.
4.33333 (weeks) x 9 (months) = 38.999 weeks
So why do they say pregnancy is 40 weeks?
Well, technically you are not even pregnant during the first two weeks or so of pregnancy. Most women don’t know when they conceived, so doctors calculate your due date based on your last menstrual period.
This table from baby2see.com really helps at explaining where you are for each week of pregnancy. As you can see, I am in the 7th month of pregnancy at 28 weeks, even though 28 weeks equals 7 months. It is more correct to say that at 28 weeks pregnant, you are 7 lunar months pregnant. This breakdown will help you find where you are if you’re pregnant and wondering how many months, not weeks, you are…
|Your First Trimester:
1st Month = Weeks 1,2,3,4
2nd Month = Weeks 5,6,7,8
3rd Month = Weeks 9,10,11,12,13
|Your Second Trimester:
4th Month = Wks 14,15,16,17
5th Month = Wks 18,19,20,21
6th Month = Wks 22,23,24,25,26
|Your Third Trimester:
7th Month = Wks 27,28,29,30
8th Month = Wks 31,32,33,34,35
9th Month = Wks 36,37,38,39,40
|Week 1 till end of week 13||Begin week 14 till end week 26||Begin week 27 till Birth|
So there you have it.
I’m currently in my 7th month of pregnancy, but going on weeks alone it’s kind of cool to think that I am 7 months pregnant (7 lunar months). I’m still feeling really good, and I haven’t missed any days of school so I’m pretty proud of myself for pushing through the days that are rough. Tomorrow we will be going for a 4D ultrasound at a Chinese hospital that we have never been to before. The hospital which we normally go to (and will be delivering our baby at) was fully booked and Wednesdays are the only day Justin and I can both get off in the mornings. We will also post our week 28 bumpdate sometime tomorrow.
Pray for good news tomorrow. We want to hear that everything is going well with baby’s growth and development. Hopefully tomorrow we will get a glimpse of baby’s cute little face!
