A Band of Pirates
For months, we discussed spending Halloween together, but as the date approached, we started to realize that we didn’t even know what we wanted to dress as. Eventually, while searching for options on Taobao, Sarrah and I decided on pirates. We also thought that a group theme would be good – so we would all be pirates! To match the theme, because I LOVE family costumes, I made a parrot costume for Eli.
We started off looking at pirate costumes to buy online, and there were a number of great options. Sizing is, however, a tough one here. Even if you measure yourself and try to order exactly according to the table provided – there is a good chance that it won’t fit. Often I have bought things that are slightly too big/ small, but the effort and cost of returning them is just not worth it.
The following week I figured out that if I just ordered a loose shirt, I could probably put the rest of my costume together with things I had at home. That was when we decided that we would try to DIY it. Only the swords, Justin’s wig, and my shirt were bought online (for dirty cheap) and the rest, believe it or not, where already in our closets.
Hard to believe that we have some much pirate-looking clothing!
For the first time in 3.5 years, Eli went to sleep at a friend, so we had the night free. Personally, I think that the most fun part of the evening was while we were getting dressed at our apartment. I helped everyone with their make-up – and even Justin wore eyeliner and mascara. When we were ready, we all sat around a low table, laughing, joking, and smoking hookah.
Here are some pictures of the five of us, all dressed up as pirates…
There was a photographer at Angelina’s, but we can’t seem to find any of the pictures taken. Except this one, below.
Of course, as I have mentioned before – I am terrible at remembering to take a group pictures. I have no idea why I remember to photography EVERYTHING, but in the madness of parties/ festivities, I often forget the group photo!
Anyway, for now, this is all we have…
Check out Eli’s parrot costume HERE. It was the first time that I had used a sewing machine, and for my very first sewing project, I was quite impressed! More on that coming later tonight…
