It’s become somewhat of a tradition of ours to go eat Mexican food whenever we are in Beijing. There are a couple of spots where we can get Mexican dishes in Qingdao, but Beijing just does food options waaaaay better!! The last time we went to Beijing it was to register Elijah’s birth at the US embassy. This time we were heading for the South African embassy so that I could apply for a new passport. Those babies fill up fast when you live abroad AND you marry someone of a different nationality! While we were in Beijing, we decided to register Elijah’s birth with the South African embassy too, yes 18 months after the fact, so he might be getting a South African passport soon too. Well, we will see how long that takes. The embassy told me that my new passport will take 4-6 months…. Haha, madness.
We stayed in the Sanlitun area again since that is where most of the embassies are located. This Mexican restaurant, called Mr.Cactus, was right around the corner from our hotel. We stumbled upon it by accident! It was clear that people came to party here in the evenings, but us family-folk enjoyed the daytime calmness. When we arrived Elijah was asleep, and he stayed that way for most of our meal. The poor kid does not like to cold so he was all bundled in jackets, and we left him that way so that he was warm and cozy. The atmosphere at this restaurant was great, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious!
haha, look at that sleepy face! When Elijah woke up we feed him a little of each of our meals. He really loves rice, and even some mildly spicy food. He is clearly accustomed to the local cuisine, and after our visit to the States, he is used to Mexican food too. He could eat rice and beans FOR DAYS!
A great tradition… Mexican in Beijing!
