We are not always the best at keeping to our weekly date night commitment. Mostly because we are home-bodies, and if we are even slightly tired, we don’t want to leave the house. Seriously, one yawn and we abandon date-night plans. Haha, any excuse to stay home! As you can imagine, there are a lot of date-nights in. Cheese, crackers, wine, or even just popcorn, and movies. We really enjoy those date nights lately. This week we were supposed to go out on Thursday, but I had a rough day so I called Justin just before he got home from work and asked if we could postpone our date, and if he could help me prepare for the Fall Soup Party that we were hosting this Saturday evening instead. He arrived home with a few items we had ordered on Taobao for the party. After dinner and Elijah’s bedtime routine, we started covering our dining room table with brown paper for the Soup Party. Around the same time, discussions between our fellowship members ended in us deciding to postpone the party since too many people were busy this weekend. The Soup event has therefore been moved to mid-november (which I’m happy with since it is still quite warm, and I can’t imagine eating hot soup yet). Instead of rolling the brown paper back up, Justin said, “For date night, let’s do some coloring in”. It seemed like a weird request to me… but it turned into a really fun date night.
Something completely new – “a coloring date”
We ended up spending the rest of the evening drinking cocktails, watching funny Youtube videos, drawing and coloring in. We were literally falling off our chairs laughing at some of the Jimmy Fallon videos that played, and the coloring in part just completed the whole night. It was so relaxing! It was so easy, and if you want to try it, this is all you’ll need…
Our dining room table still looks like it does in the picture below, and more drawings have been added, by our son and our students. This date night was cheap, easy, and super chilled.
We bought a MASSIVE roll of brown paper, so I think we will be doing a few more date nights like this in the cold winter months. We really enjoyed this coloring date. Maybe we will use paint next time…. haha, I know, we are such nerds!
