**FYI – this blog post is a couple of weeks delayed. Last Sunday was Easter – so clearly I am not up to date, and I jumping around through pictures, posts and stories. Oh well, netter late than never! **
A Sunday Break
We started Sunday with a loooooong call to Texas. It isn’t always easy to call home (either of our homes) because of the odd time difference. Texas is 13 hours behind us, which means that we wake when they are going to bed, and vice versa. Calls to South Africa are even more difficult. The 6 hour difference actually proves to be more challenging than the 13 hour one. When our loved ones in SA are waking up, we are working, and when we wake up in the morning, it is 2am there. Family and friends barely ever get to see Eli because the only time that would be reasonable to call would be around 2-4pm, but Eli is usually napping. I work from 4:30-5:30. Then from 6pm to 7pm it is dinner, bath time, and bedtime for Eli.
We woke up early on Sunday so we decided to use the opportunity to call home (Texas). Grams and Gramps enjoyed the time with Eli, and we all laughed a lot during our two-hour conversation. I think we only ended the call because we had to gather our things and head off to church. If not, it might have turned into a day-long hang out (or at least until the grandparents needed to go to bed).
Below, Eli eating his cereal and talking to Grams in Texas.
Lately I have been sketching while I listen to the Sunday morning message. This is my sketch from Genesis 15. Mostly I just find pictures that I like online, and then redo it/ adapt it. In my opinionot super talented to just copy an image – but they do look pretty!
There’s a good chance that I haven’t posted any of these on the blog yet, but I do post my Sunday sketches to We Chat. Sadly, I don’t even have a cute little book where I have collected them. I need one of those cute Journal Bibles – totally my kind of thing!
After church we took a stroll to Leader for lunch.
We started working for two hours each on a Sunday in order to save extra money for the Australia- New Zealand trip. The trip turned out to be way more expensive than we had budgeted for (which has never happened to us – woah, it is super expensive down under!) and we have continued on with the extra work on Sundays.
We took this Sunday off and wanted to make the most of it. It had been too long since we relaxed after church.
We stopped just outside our apartment for some baozi, because we assumed that Eli would fall asleep before lunch and not eat anything. Look at him in his Nana’s glasses – his eyes are very sensitive to light, and on a white (cloudy/ smoggy) day, he can barely open his eyes. Now that he is back into wearing glasses, we have to make a conscious effort to take them with when we go out.
We decided on Yummy Box for lunch. A pizza and some craft beers sound JUST PERFECT!
The name of this restaurant has actually changed, to “Superbowl”, but I don’t think that we will ever stop calling it Yummy box.
The owner treated us to three craft beers. It was nice trying, and comparing them, while we waited for our pizza.
And speaking of pizza – you should see the pizza of the pizzas at Yummy Box!! GINORMOUS!
We ended up sitting at Yummy Box for hours and hours. It was so relaxing, and exactly what we needed after weeks of working after church. It is really hard to work six days a week, and lately I have been working SEVEN days a week (photoshoots on Saturday and Sundays) so I really do miss family outings like this!
A much enjoyed Sunday afternoon together.
