While we were on the beautiful island of Bali, we met a really nice guy who was planning on moving there to work as an artist. We spent a couple of days with him around the villas where we were staying. The four of us enjoyed the downtime together – swimming, drinking beer, laying around the pool, playing cards, ordering take-out, and even walking around central Ubud. One afternoon we found ourselves at Bollero Restaurant. Situated in Jalan Dewi Sita, at the top of the soccer field, Bollero is within easy walking distance from anywhere in central Ubud. They seemed to have pretty good food here, but we didn’t actually stay for dinner. It was the half priced cocktails, beautiful artwork and cozy atmosphere that attracted us to this spot.
While we sat at this open restaurant, which faced a quiet street, we enjoyed two-for-one cocktails and good conversation. Eli entertained us with his flashcards and story books. When he got bored of those, we put on one of his stories (so that he wouldn’t start running around the restaurant) and JM took out his notepad and drew a picture of Elijah who was sitting so perfectly still. It was really humid, so we pulled up Eli’s shirt over his belly, just like an old Chinese man would do during the summer.
We tried the Irish Coffees – which were on the cocktail list – but they were rather disappointing so we switched to normal iced cocktails after that round. The cocktails at Borello were decent, but not wonderful. In fact, we were not too impressed with the overall cocktail-situation on Bali. It felt like the two for one specials meant that restaurants had simply just reduced the size, and lower the quality, of the drinks to compensate for the “happy hour” specials.
A wonderfully relaxing afternoon with family and friends.
Thank you for the works of art JM!
