Another Glorious Day
The weather has been simply amazing lately. Sure, there are some rainy days every now and again, and we are definitely moving into fall now… but overall, the end of summer was really great. Coming back to China in August, instead of September (like we usually would) ended up being quite enjoyable. This may have been our last Qingdao beach day for the year – and we sure did MAKE THE MOST of it. Look at those fluffy white clouds and gorgeous blue skies – breathtaking!
To get there, Eli and I walked along the coastline, continuing until just after the Hyatt Hotel. We really like the area of beach just after the hotel because there are never many people there. There are also some rock pools when the tide goes out, and the kids love to play in them. Our friends were already there, playing in the sand, when we arrived. Eli didn’t even take off his shoes, or look back to see where I was, he ran straight into the water!
Ocean Creepy Crawlies
The locals love to pick up the shells and sea creatures in the water. We always see them filling little buckets with water and tons of little crabs. Eli stood with a sweet Chinese couple in the shallow waves, and they handed him some creepy crawlies from the water. This was the first time that he has ever held anything like this, and I enjoyed seeing how intrigued he was. He is not at all afraid of holding bugs, or crawling creatures.
It Almost Fits
While we were home, one of my besties, Tarrin, gave us A TON of clothes for Eli. Her son, Camden, grows soooo quickly. Even though he is younger than Eli, he is already much bigger than him. We came back to China with almost an entire suitcase filled with great outfits for our boy. And some of it will only fit him in about a year for now. This vest he is wearing was Camden’s, and as you can see, it is slightly too big, but it should fit next summer. Our boy grows really slowly. He still fits into t-shirts he wore last summer, and shoes he wore 18 months ago!
Fun in the Sand
The kids played in the sand for ages – they rolled in the puddles of warm water that collected in the sand. With the tide out as far as it was, they were able to run free! It was surprisingly hot, but absolutely pleasant at the same time.
We moved to the rock pools after a while.
There were little schools of fish swimming around in the water.
Just the Two of Us
When our friends left the beach, Eli and I set up our little tent for a break from the sun. Little man wouldn’t stay in the shade very long though. After a quick snack and some refreshments, he was back into the rock pool. I put him into a wetsuit to keep him from getting sunburnt.
Ice Joins Us
On Thursdays, I meet with a sweet lady for two hours. We drink tea and catch up on the week that has passed since we last met. She absolutely LOVES Eli but he is often sleeping when she comes. Since we were having such fun in the beach, I told Ice to meet us there. Both her and Eli were THRILLED with this decision to stay on the beach for the rest of the afternoon!
Rinsing off before we head home
By the time we climbed into Ice’s car, Eli’s head was already bobbing. Believe it or not, he is not even asleep in the picture below. He is simply exhausted!
Our glorious day ended with some spectacular sunset colors. I loved to view the sky, over all the buildings, from our dining room windows. It is a pity that we don’t face the sunrise, or sunset, in our apartment, but we can still see both of them.
