For lunch we were joined by another couple from church, Michael and Elisabeth. They have a beautiful baby girl, Rhema, and as you can see above… she is totally relaxed! Elisabeth is also pregnant, and they are expecting their second little girl in only 6 weeks. We will be delivering at the same hospital in Qingdao.
Michael and Elisabeth were intrigued to know if Justin would be able to finish this big spicy pizza in 30 minutes… But I have to admit, I had no doubt in my mind that he could do it. Justin eats in the school cafeteria everyday and I’m amazed at how quickly he can eat when he wants to get out of there. Don’t get me wrong – I’m guilty of the same thing! I also had no doubts because I have seen Justin eat a range of very spicy foods during our travels — He just seems to know how to handle the heat. And with that, we all went ahead and ordered our food.
I was proud of him for trying, but I felt bad for him when the rest of the afternoon his stomach was on fire. We had ice cream and smoothies when we got home, and that helped a little but he still felt uncomfortable for a number of hours. It just goes to show.. no matter how much spicy food you USED to eat, you can lose your tolerance. We had to pay 70 yuan for the pizza, which is only a little more than a normal pizza. Looking back we are glad that he stopped eating when he did otherwise he might have still been suffering today!
