On August 22nd, 2015 we dedicated our son, Elijah, to the Lord. Among family and friends we committed to raising our son according to God’s way. Why do we do Baby Dedications? This is an opportunity to thank God for the precious gift of Elijah. Our chance to publicly declare your intentions to raise Elijah in a Christian home. It also provides a benchmark we can return to time and time again. In a sense, it is a family dedication, where parents and family commit themselves to abide by biblical principles and to raise Elijah according to God’s standards.
Our friends from China, who also live in Texas, came to Dallas for the weekend. Zachary performed the ceremony, and we asked Justin’s oldest friend, Enrique, and his wife, Veaney, to be Elijah’s God-parents.
We found a great poem on another blog, The Unveiled Wife. Justin and I read this to Elijah during his Dedication Ceremony. We loved these words and all that they encompass.
Elijah, we love you so much. We are so thankful for you, and how you have touched our lives. We are going to print out the poem that we read for you, so that we always remember that “your precious eyes are watching us intently, and your tiny little ears are listening so sharply”. We know that we have a responsibility to guide you onto the right path, and we promise to do the best job that we can. “We’ll teach you how to love by the way we treat others, we’ll teach you generosity by the way we give, we’ll teach you how to worship God by our obedience to Him, and we’ll teach you righteousness by the way we live”.
You are a gift from God,
And we are so blessed to have been chosen to be your parents!
