We had a flight booked from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur, but it was a late one. This was great because we didn’t need to leave our hotel too early. We hated the bus ride from Malaysia to Thailand so we were very happy to be flying back down there instead. Our flight took off at 9:30pm. We ran into a bit of a problem in Phuket because we had overstayed our Thailand tourist visas. Our original plan had been to stay in Malaysia longer, but plans changed and we were eager to get to the beaches so we entered Thailand sooner than we thought we would. At the Thai immigration we had to explain why we had overstayed our visas… Unlike the States or the UK, this wasn’t a problem though. We paid a penalty fee and they let us go. Everything seems easier when you’re traveling through South East Asia! We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 11:30pm but unfortunately our flight back to China only left at 8am the following day. We had made the decision to sleep in the airport because this is something that we have both done before, and it wasn’t a problem for us. This time was a little different though… The airport was unlike most in that it was very noisy and there was no air-conditioning! It was hot and stuffy in the terminal, and to top this situation off, there were no benches!! There were not even carpeted waiting areas. We tried to look for a hotel in close range, but the only one that we could find was extremely expensive and very far away. The cab ride would have cost us a fortune too.
We fell in and out of sleep, often woken by the silliest of things. In the morning the airport started to come alive again so we made our way to the check-in are. Despite our uncomfortable night. There was one thing that made the morning quite exciting for us… We had pre-booked premium seats on Air Asia so we got to spread out on flat beds with big fluffy pillows. That was an absolute treat, and it made us wish that we could always travel like that!!
This was an amazing journey and I wouldn’t have down it with anyone else in the world. Justin is a great travel buddy, and I enjoy every second on the road with him.
We look forward to our next long trip together.
Who knows where we will end up next!
