Balcony Water Fun. Elijah has always loved water. As a tiny baby he never ever cried or moaned when we bathed him, and when he could sit up, he wanted to play in the bath for as long as we would allow him. In South Africa, the Philippines and Texas, he absolutely loved swimming with us and both of his grandfathers. There is no denying that we have a water-baby on our hands. Unfortunately he doesn’t quite know the dangers of water yet, so we have to be careful when he sees a pool or the ocean. He instantly fills with joy and starts running directly for the water. We once had him run right into the ocean, and he was soaked right up to his waste (and that was during the colder months!) He has no fear and I think he thinks he can swim!
Earlier this week, we had a wonderfully sunny day and although it is nice to go play outside for an hour or two, I knew that Eli would love some time out on the balcony. When I am busy putting on make up in the bathroom, he will play with his toys in an empty bucket. When I allow him to have some water, he can’t stop grinning from ear to ear. As you can imagine, he was therefore completely overjoyed when I put some water in a wide flat bucket, and took it to the balcony for him. For a while he was in the bucket, but he mostly enjoyed just leaning over the side and playing with his toys.
There he is… IN the bucket!
He got this hat, which has “Eli” sewn onto the front of it, when he was about one years old from his grandmother. It is finally the right season and it fits him too, but don’t let the pictures fool you… Eli doesn’t like hats or glasses. He will pull them off immediately after we place them on him. I was quite surprised that he left this hat on for as long as he did. Even though he was covered in sunblock, I still hoped that he would keep the hat on while he was in the sun. He ended up pulling it off after about 15 minutes… which is quite a record for Eli!
After some time I took Elijah a peanut butter sandwich to munch on. He happily played with one hand, and ate with the other. The bread was a little crumbly so it started to drop into the water.
He tried to catch it and keep eating it, while also playing with his little dog in the water…
But alas, one of the last bites fell into the water!
“Oh no Mommy! I dropped it!”
Look at that face…
What a cute little guy! I love that he loves water so much, and that he is now getting a little older and can happily play in the water without me having to sit right next to him. As the weather gets warmer, I am sure that he will be out there with his bucket a lot more. If I could fit a small blow up pool out there, I would definitely get him one. In fact, I would make sure that we could both get into it! Since our balcony is quite small, a bucket of water will have to do. We just love summer and all the water-fun that comes with it!
