A Beach Walk on “Shilaoren” (the name of this beach in Mandarin)
It’s the perfect time of the year – the humidity is gone, the air has cooled off, but it’s not yet cold. It’s a pity that autumn doesn’t last very long in Qingdao, China, because it is one of our most favorite times of the year. The leaves are starting to change, and many have begun to fall. We are using every opportunity to get out and about, and enjoy this wonderful season. Elijah is walking, but very happy to be in our hiking backpack, Ergo carrier, or the stroller… so there really is nothing that we can’t do without him. One day, when there are four of us, Justin and I will each have to use a carrier, and invest in a double stroller, but until then, this is a nice stage. Eli is walking (yes, he’s walking… more on that in another post – evidently my definition of walking is a little different to other moms I talk to) but thankfully, he’s grown very accustomed to our explorations.
On this particular day, we had done a short hike up FuShan, visited a craft brewery, and then gone on a long walk. Eli remained in the carrier for almost the entire day. He loves his view from way up high (taller than daddy), and doesn’t seem to grow tired of being stuck on our backs. We are very thankful for this! After a day of explorations, and once we were almost home, we took him out of the hiking backpack so that he could stretch his legs on the beach. This little boy does not like the wind, he never has, and he makes the funniest faces when it is blowing. Here are some pictures from our early evening sunset walk along the beach right near our apartment…
We live a couple of blocks from the beach – only a few minutes on foot – so we were home shortly after our stroll on Shilaoren. Gosh, I love living here. We got to hike, go beer tasting, explore a new area, walk along the beach, and then stop at the fresh market for vegetables on the way home. It is simple, so easy, and such a healthy lifestyle. Another wonderful day in Qingdao!
