It has been getting really cold around here! When I say “really cold” I mean that I’m South African, and that it is probably not THAT cold, but I’m a total baby when it comes to chilly winds and icy cold temperatures. Our old apartment had super awesome underfloor heating. It was a fancy new apartment, so of course, the heating system was modern and worked great (well, when it finally came on). We now live in an older apartment, and let’s just say the heating doesn’t quite work as well. We knew that before we moved in, but trust me, this place is worth it!!! We absolutely LOVE our new apartment. I used to visit my friend, McKenzie (who lived here before us), and when I did, I remember not removing my jacket and hat straight away. It felt really chilly in the house to me. Still, even though I knew that before I moved in here, I wanted to live here. We will do a “This is Our Home” post soon, and then maybe it will make a bit more sense. I know you’re all waiting for that blog post, but we just haven’t had the chance to take house pictures yet. We will get there soon enough.
About a month ago, Eli was still able to play out on the balcony. It wasn’t very warm, but with the sun rising on that side of the apartment, it was a good temperature. In fact, on sunny days he would play in just a diaper and a t-shirt. It was that perfect Autumn weather that many of us love. Not hot and humid, but not yet cold and breezy. Those were some nice mornings. Our rocking chair is right by the balcony, so while I sat drinking my morning cup of coffee and editing/ blogging, Eli would play on the balcony. Man, he’s such a cutie. I could just sit and watch him forever. He takes toys inside and then outside. He loves to arrange, and then rearrange, whatever items he is playing with.
It is now much too cold for Elijah to play on the balcony. We go outside but only with lots of layers. The weather forecast shows that we are going to drop from maximum temps of about 10-12ºC to 3-4ºC next week. In fact, is is supposed to snow next Thursday! Beijing is going to have a freakish November snow storm this weekend, so we will probably get some of those cold winds passing through here. Brrrr…
Our heating is now on, but with no underfloor heating (yes, our fancy apartment ruined my expectations) and only one radiator per room, our apartment is really cold. On a positive note, we used to walk around in shorts and not need fuzzy socks to keep warm. I think we might enjoy having to snuggle up for warmth. There’s always a silver lining to every situation… Lots of soups, tea, hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, warm sweaters, sitting next to the heater, and blankets all over the couch. I don’t particularly like winter, but I do like all the cuddle-time, watching movies, and making yummy food.
