Bernese Oberland, Switzerland│For each country on our European road trip, there was a different goal or idea. The goal for Switzerland… DRIVE!! Drive through the Swiss Alps and soak it all in. Although we didn’t exactly know what to expect when it came to Switzerland, we were ever so pleasantly surprised by what this country had to offer! Instantly, just like we had been in France, we were filled with the desire to stay there for… EVER!
“Breathtaking views, magnificent mountains, unspoilt nature,
glistening lakes and genuine hospitality – the best of Switzerland!
The Bern-Bernese Oberland region is well worth a visit at any time of year.”
This region of Switzerland is famous for it’s picturesque landscapes surrounded by countless mountain peaks, more than 800 lakes, living traditions, visible customs, and FEELINGS OF HAPPINESS. I have to say, driving through this part of Europe, there was definitely a steady flow of “feelings of happiness”. It felt like we had died and gone to heaven. The heaven where you go on road trips, eat cheese, and stop to drip your toes in crystal blue rivers. The Bernese Oberland is one of Switzerland’s most diverse regions.
Here are a few pictures from our drive through this region of Switzerland…
We stopped at one of the small Swiss Alpine village stores, and picked up some cheese, sausage, and yogurt.
One spoonful of that yogurt, and I NEARLY DIED. Never in my life have I ever tasted yogurt that delicious. Thick, smooth and full of flavor. It was out of this world.
We weren’t sure which cheese to pick – there were about 40 different kinds in this little store – so the sweet girl working there asked me a few questions. Based on my answers, she suggested the Mutschli Poivre. And she couldn’t have suggested better! This cheese was INCREDIBLE!
“A small, cows’ milk cheese from the alpine pastures, Mutschli is available in several varieties. Whether plain, with herbs, garlic or capsicum, it is a mild cheese, being relatively young. It remains only three weeks in the maturation cellar. Mutschli was created some ten years ago by Karl Müller in his alpine cheese dairy in Plaffeien, in the district of Sense. Perched at more than 1300 metres, the chalet and its surroundings offer an unrestricted view of the Pre-Alps and the area is a paradise for hikers.” – SOURCE
Heaven just got even better… It had the best cheese we had ever tasted!
