I am going to start our “Best Of”compilations of our travels and many blog posts. You could consider it similar to a singer releasing a greatest hits CD halfway through their brief career. But they always sell, so enjoy!
Here are the most beautiful, exciting, breathtaking, or any other descriptive word you could use to describe the most amazing, sunsets Catherine and I have experienced on our travels. Post comments and let me know what you think about my rankings. Also if you have one of your own let me know so Catherine and I have a new place to go 🙂
Poop Creek, Dongying, China, September 2011
Catherine and I went for a stroll around sunset after living in Dongying for a couple weeks. The weather was still nice so we had to take advantage of it. Every once and a while we will get a nice sunset here. The sky is mostly a white haze every evening. Hopefully the spring will bring us more nights like this.
Gwangali Beach, Busan, South Korea, May 2010
This sunset went down as the most important one to me. Not the most beautiful by any means, but this is the place where Catherine and I met, some 2 weeks earlier. The beach was the best part of living in Busan. Thank my great Lord that Catherine loved the beach. Who knows where I would have had to go to find her…..
Kata Beach, Phuket, Thailand, February 2012
Our days in Phuket were not many and our days at the beach were even less. We spent most of our time on day trips. So this was our only day at the beach. We laid on chairs and soaked up the sun for most of the afternoon. Around sunset Cat and I started off on our beach walk. We couldn’t see the sunset form the beach so we waded in the ocean about waist deep to get this photo.
Long Beach, Krabi, Thailand, January 2012
After 4 weeks of jungle trekking, boat trips, buses, flights and tour buses in hot polluted cities we finally made our way to the beach. And not just any beach. We had a bungalow on the beach, and the staff at our Guesthouse was amazing. Watching the sunset every night from our guesthouse was what we needed. The 5 days here went by so quick. Thanks for everything Ae!
GulangYu Island, Xiamen, China, January 2012
This day was supposed to be “Race Day”. So instead of sitting in our room and feeling sad, we mustered the strength to visit this little island. We had an amazing day, from fighting the hoards of people to fighting the starvation of the day. This sunset put us in a great mood. It made getting lost on our way back to ferry boat less of an ordeal.
Signal Hill, Cape Town, South Africa, December 2010
Cape Town was an amazing city that I am lucky to call my home away from home now. The landscape and culture of the city is almost as breathtaking as my dearest Catherine. This African sunset cracks into the top 5 with ease. Behind me as I take this photo is Table Mountain, which is equally as stunning as this sunset.
Mount Tai, Tai’an, China October 2011 [1532 meters/ 5,000 ft.]
Maybe my opinion is biased here because Catherine and I hiked 5.5 hours and 5,000ft to get to the top, but there was something about a sunset in the “heavens”. Watching the sun set under the clouds was magical. It could have been my extreme exhaustion though….
Huang Pu River Cruise, Shanghai, China, October 2011
Catherine and I boarded a river boat to cruise the famous Shanghai river and to watch the sunset and see the city skyline during sunset and after dark. We were greeted with a fabulous sunset. For me clouds can take a normal sunset and make it look spectacular!!
Sai Nuan Beach, Koh Tao, Thailand, February 2012
We walked around in the island heat for over an hour trying to find a beach gem on this island. We finally found it in Sai Nuan. It was a peaceful beach with few tourists. We laid in the sand for hours soaking up the sun and reading our books! When the sun set it was by far the prettiest of our SE Asia trip.
And the winner is…….
White Beach, Boracay Island, Philippines September 2010
We spent an amazing 6 days on the island. Each night the sunset out did the previous night. This was the most amazing from the trip. Our standard for amazing beaches was set by this one. The water was as clear as glass, even 10meters out. The sand was as the softest, whitest sand my feet have ever touched. I would love to go back.
