Burgruine Finkenstein│Austrian Castle Ruins
One afternoon, when we had all dried off from our swim in the lake, we made our way up to some castle ruins. The Klugs wanted to show us the view of the lake, and all the surrounding mountains. on our way up we realized that there was some sort of music event about to start, so people were walking up the the castle ruins with blankets, bottles of wine, and picnic blankets. What a fantastic place to watch a concert!
Finkenstein Castle is a ruined castle in Carinthia, Austria, situated on a steep cliff to the south at the foot of the Karavanke (a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps on the border between Slovenia and Austria) and above Lake Faak. Burgruine Finkenstein is situated at a height of 788 meters. The oldest parts of the castle are Romanesque. In the second half of the 16th century, was rebuilt in late Gothic style. At the beginning of this century, four gates were built in the High Castle. The 15 m high end wall of the former palace still stands today. Today Finkenstein Castle Ruin is the backdrop of the Burgarena, an amphitheatre with 1150 seats mainly used for concerts.
Below, Sadly this is probably the closest that we all came to being in one picture! I don’t know what is wrong with me, but I ALMOST ALWAYS forget to take a group picture! At any gathering, big or small, I will get pictures of everything, but it always slips my mind to get a picture of everyone together. Maybe it is because I don’t like to inconvenience everyone by asking for pictures. So I basically just take the pictures that I can, when no one is looking. Oh well – I guess we have to go back!
For the pictures, of course *wink*
Above, This is the high end wall that I mentioned above. And below, the ammphitheatre with it’s 1150 seats.
I can’t believe how gorgeous this setting is – Imagine the stars shining above the show at night!
Sweet boy was being coy, or maybe trying to sneak a kiss! Either way, he is just too darn cute, and I love this family picture of us with Lake Faak behind us. We grabbed a few pretzels and made our way back to the cars.
If you happen to find yourself in Carinthia, Austria, be sure to check out what music concert are on at the Finkenstein amphitheatre. What a beautiful place for a romantic date night!
