Chaweng Night Market is a riot of colours, sounds and scents. We visited this market on one of our evenings spent on Koh Samui. The market was not too far from our bungalow so we were able to walk there easily. This market, although not very large, was pleasantly surprising! This is a place where you can haggle for items such as T-shirts, sunglasses, knockoff watches, beach dresses, lamps, denim shorts, “name brands” items, flip-flops, bags of all shapes and sizes, carved wooden souvenirs, kids clothing and cosmetics. It also has an food section running along one side of the market, with countless food stands selling grilled chicken, squid, delicious sweet boiled chicken, and smoothies. Everyone seems to be in good spirit here!
Looooots of cosmetics!
We walking around the clothing, cosmetics, perfume and souvenir stalls but didn’t buy anything. We had seen much of what we wanted to take home up in Bangkok and we knew that we would be returning there, so we decided to hold off the purchasing until our trip was almost over. Less to carry and take care of!
The smell of the food stalls drew us in – but it was hard to decide what to get because everything looked so amazing. We settled on some smoothies and fried goodies since we weren’t hungry enough to eat a whole meal. Some of the seafood looked incredible!
The atmosphere, great prices, and delicious food at this night market make it well worth visiting if you are on Koh Samui. The market is just off the main street that runs along Chaweng Beach. If we had been flying home from here, we probably would have ended up buying clothes and other goodies. We took a slow stroll back to our bungalow, stopping for ice cream as we did every night – ummm, hello 15 pounds of vacation weight – and some snacks to take back to our room. The following morning we packed up our things and took a ferry over to Koh Phangan.
