When Justin left the States for South Korea, back in 2009, his best friend was still celebrating the birth of his first child. That child, a girl, is now SIX! That’s her on the right above. On the left, is little Enrique. He was born while we were here visiting in 2011. We got to hold him a couple days after he was born, and shortly after that we were off again. On this, our third visit to the States, this family got to meet our little man. It is incredible how much bigger our friends kids are every times we return to Texas for a visit. This year, we arrived just in time to celebrate their combined birthday with them. Born three days (and two years) apart, birthday parties are much bigger and better as a shared event. We were invited to join them at Chuck E Cheese for lunch, games, and lots of excitement. Grandma Great, from South Dakota, was visiting, so she came with us.
Chuck E. Cheese’s is a chain of American family entertainment centers and restaurants. They serve pizza and other menu items, complemented by arcade games, amusement rides, and animatronic displays as a focus of entertainment for the entire family. The brand derives its name from its main animatronic character Chuck E. Cheese, a comedic mouse who sings and interacts with guests.
When we arrived, it was the middle of nap-time for Eli so he stayed asleep at the beginning of the party. He slept on my shoulder for a while, and then on gramps for a bit too.
Aaliyah is now 6 and Enrique (junior) is 4… Luckily they both love Peppa the Pig, and they were thrilled about there big birthday cake. I think having kids birthday’s around the same time must be pretty great for parents. Less party planning when they are young!
We all received a “Play Pass” which was loaded with 20 credits. We gave Elijah his and tried to explain what it was. His reaction was priceless (even though we know he had no idea what we were talking about). It was fun playing the arcade games with Elijah. We tried to get as many tickets as we could so that we could exchange them for some prizes at the end.
It was a fun party at Chuck E Cheese – lots of dancing, and videos playing on the screens at the front. Each table was assigned to a different birthday party, but there were only ever 2-3 groups inside at once so it never felt too full. Pizza was brought out and there was a pretty decent salad bar, which Justin and I ate.
After lunch Aaliyah and Enrique (junior) each got a turn to go into a large tube with their dad. Fans blew tickets everywhere, and they were supposed to catch as many as they could, and then exchange them for prizes.
It was great to attend this party with the whole family, even grandma had a good time. Justin and Enrique have been friends since they were about 8 years old, so it really feels like one big family when we are together.
We had a great time at Chuck E Cheese!! Since then Aaliyah has been absolutely crazy about Elijah, and whenever they come over to visit she shouts “Eli Eli” and picks him up under his arms and carries him around. So cute!
