Claire, Autumn & Nai Nai
In China there are different names for the paternal and the maternal grandparents. I like this method of naming because it eliminates all of the confusion involved in the English way of doing it. For us, “grandmother” and “grandfather” are used to refer to both sets of grandparents, and the next question is most often something like this… “Is it your mother’s father, or your father’s father?”.
“Nai Nai” is affectionate term used for the paternal grandmother.
You might recognize Claire from some of my posts from last year. I threw a baby shower for her, and made this Shower Book and Frame for her to remember that special day. Justin and I joined her and her family at the hospital on the day that she gave birth to Autumn. We had originally planned to do a photo shoot when Autumn was a tiny baby, but with the pollution levels as high as they were, that shoot never happened. Finally, Claire decided to skip the outdoor photo shoot and have this one done as a surprise for her husband.
Here is Claire with her daughter (Autumn) and her mother-in-law (“Nai Nai”)…
