Being in South Africa during February means that we get to celebrate with our good friend, Clinton. This year he turned 29 (which means he’s the last of us in our 20’s – lucky boy). I must admit, seeing him and Justin instantly became friends, back in 2013, when they first hung out on the night of our wedding, made me very happy. There’s nothing better than getting together with a girlfriend, and knowing, with all certainty, that your husbands really do enjoy each other’s company.
We all met at Cantina Tequila – a Mexican Restaurant and Bar in Durbanville, Cape Town – for Clinton’s surprise birthday dinner. There were new friends to meet, and some old ones who I hadn’t seen in years. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were all great. Elijah got tons of attention and then ended up falling asleep in his stroller just after dinner time. Catherine had organised Clinton a cake and candles, and secretly given it to the waitress to bring out after dinner. She brought it out alright… just as is. She walked out, plonked the cake and the unlit – still boxed – candles, on the table and then walked away. We all started laughing, and poor Catherine just about died. Way to go, lady!
The night was concluded with cake and a couple more cocktails.
This was a wonderful night with old friends, and new. After living abroad for so long, it is nice to be able to celebrate birthday’s with friends when we can.
