One of the most beautiful spots we have ever visited in Paarl is the Spice Route Destination. Only a 40 minute drive from Cape Town, this is the ultimate day-trip for the whole family. We made our way there with a group of friends, and then divided up so that we could all visit the parts of this establishment that most appealed to us. In all honesty, we would like to return and be able to visit every area of this farm, but with limited time on this particular day, we separated and then joined together for lunch under the trees at La Grapperia.
While the wives – and kids – were tasting chocolate and ice cream, the men ventured off to the beer tasting building. I was a little disappointed to not be able to taste the beer with Justin, but as I said, we definitely plan on returning to the Spice Route on our next visit to South Africa. The Cape Brewery Company, also known as CBC, produces and offers a wide range of beers. Beer lovers can view the facilities, follow the entire beer production process and then taste the beer, either on tap or at the tasting stations. Justin and two friends paid R35 to try 6 different beers.
The facilities here are wonderful. There is so much to see and do.
Even simply strolling around and/or stopping in for lunch is a great idea. The scenery and view from the Spice Route farm are superb. Here are a few pictures from the Justin’s beer tasting at the Cape Brewing Company…
After I had finished my Artisan Chocolate tasting, I met with Justin at the Cape Brewing Company. We enjoy doing these kinds of activities together, but he’s not a huge chocolate fan so this particular situation worked out just fine. Next stop was a relaxing lunch under the magnificent oak trees of La Grapperia. More on that, and my chocolate tasting, coming soon!
