D’Aria’ is a vineyard on the north- and east- facing slopes of the Tygerberg hills, in Cape Town. This was the destination for our morning Cheese and Wine Tasting with good friends, Andrew and Laetitia. They had kindly taken a day off work, and asked to spend some quality time with us. We had originally planned on going hiking, but the skies were overcast when we woke up, so we went wine tasting. It really doesn’t take much to persuade us to drop our pre-made plans and go wine tasting instead.
It turned out to be a beautiful day, and we were pleased with our decision to go to D’Aria. The wine farm has a lovely open deck adjacent to a large pond, and the whole area is surrounded by trees, making it feel secluded and peaceful. We tried 10 different wines (yes, oh goodness – It’s go big or go home when it comes to wine tasting in South Africa!) and ordered two cheese platters to share. Elijah napped in his carseat for a while, and then, when he woke up, we moved to the grass area outside. The friendly man who worked there provided us with some picnic blankets, and told us that we were free to enjoy our wine anywhere outside. We lost track of how many wines we had tasted, and even though he said we had tried all ten, he let us try another for free. So generous! Elijah played on the grass – nibbling on some every now and again – while us “big people” lay back, chatted, and made the most of another stunning day in Cape Town.

After our relaxing morning at D’Aria, we were all feeling rather peckish, so we went for lunch at Spur, a popular chain restaurant in South Africa. It was eat-all-want on ribs and calamari, and the boys were feeling up for a challenge.

We only made it home around 4pm, and we were all absolutely shattered!
Sunshine + Wine + Unlimited supply of food
= Self-induced COMA!
Thank you to our friends for taking time off work to spend the day with us. We are so happy that we had some quality time with you two. D’Aria is a wonderful spot for wine tasting, and we heard that their food is to die for. Next time we visit we will have to try one of their amazing-looking burgers!
