Ding Ding Ding. That was the sound that the Indonesian locals made when they saw Elijah. Sometimes they would also say, “Ding ding baby”. There is no denying that Asian people absolutely adore kids, and even the men will stop what they are doing to take a moment to interact with our little man. In the Philippines they would say, “Hellow Baybeee”, and in China they make a clicking sound when they see a small child. I’m not quite sure how to explain the clicking, but it wasn’t long before I starting making the same sound.
It is so interesting traveling with Elijah because he really breaks the ice between us an other travelers, and even more so, the locals. We still imitate the sounds that the Filipino, Indonesian, and Chinese make when we interact with Elijah, and it never fails to make us smile!
