Eiffel │ Birthday Dinner Date
For my 33rd birthday, Justin took me for a surprise birthday dinner date. He wouldn’t tell me where we are going – he’s so cute like that! He always wants to surprise me, but I’m a busy mama and I have basically heard of everything that Qingdao has to offer. Even though there really aren’t an abundance of options here in Qingdao, he went out of his way to find a restaurant that we had never been to before.
Unfortunately, we were seated next to a couple that were chewing so loud that we could barely hear each other talking… Super romantic! In typical Chinese fashion, they had ordered about five dishes between the two of them, and were also digging into a regular size cake. Come to think of it, it was probably an anniversary dinner for them since I seem to remember seeing their faces printed onto the top of their cake. Despite the fact that we were all there for the same reason – a lovely dinner with our spouse – they were not really enjoying each other’s company. They both had their eyes glued on their smart phones as they (loudly) chewed down on the numerous dishes in front of them. Needless to say, our dinner felt much more romantic when they left!
We shared two dishes for dinner — a creamy Prawn Pasta and a Beef, Egg and Cashew Salad. Both dishes were very tasty, but rather on the small side for their price. A couple of people had told me that there are incredible views of the city from this restaurant. In fact, Justin had booked us a window seat for exactly that reason. But alas, we weren’t able to see much out of the windows due to the reflections from the lights in the restaurant. It is quite common in Qingdao to use harsh down-lights instead of soft romantic lighting, or better yet, candles.
Justin gave me a birthday card with a postcard from Paris. On it he wrote a sweet note. After dinner I thought that he had perhaps done this as a hint to our dinner date location, but he said that it was just a coincidence! haha.
After dinner we met up with some friends at one of the bars on Qingdao’s “Bar Street”. You can check out pictures from the rest of our night, and my whole birthday, in this post >> Thirty Three.
What a pity we have not been able to get out on many dates lately. There have been a few indoor dates though, and we are working on a painting together! The weather is, however, warming up, so there will be plenty of outdoor dates and walks coming up. Spring is here and the blossoms are out – the best season in Qingdao!
