Back in March, I did a post called Bumping Bellies where I told you about my friend, Elizabeth, who was also pregnant, with roughly 7-8 weeks separating us. Her second daughter, Thea, was born in April right here in Qingdao, at the same hospital where I would later deliver Elijah. Elizabeth and I talk everyday, all day, but the best is when we get together and we are able to compare how our babies have grown. Thea is a few weeks older than Elijah, so she has always been much bigger than him, but all that changed this weekend when we put them together for our usual side-by-side comparison and realised that Elijah is starting to overtake Thea and pretty soon he will be bigger than her. I definitely feel those extra pounds he has gained because it is becoming more and more of a challenge to carry him without feeling it in my arms.
Here are some pictures of our kiddos next to each other (right from the belly stage)…
Last belly shot
The above picture was taken after my baptism in April. Liz was set for her scheduled c-section the following day, so this was our last day of being pregnant together. I went to see her and Thea at the Hospital a few days later, and as I held Thea in my arms I marvelled at the fact that soon I would be holding my sweet baby too!
Elijah 5 hours, Thea 8 weeks
The few short hours after Elijah entered the world, Liz came to see him and she brought Thea along. As you can see, even though Elijah is 8 weeks younger than Thea, he was already quite tall by comparison.
Thea 9 weeks, Elijah 1 week
A week later Michael and Liz came to our apartment to bring us dinner, and we laid the babies down on the bed to see how much Elijah had grown in his first week. It was pretty evident that he had already grown quite a bit!
Thea 21 weeks , Elijah 13 weeks
We met up once more this past weekend, and the kiddos had again grown a lot since their last visit. This time Elijah almost looked bigger than Miss Thea. Before we know it these two are going to be walking side-by-side, and Liz and I will always smile and remember how they were in our bellies during the same months. It’s the most beautiful thing watching children grow. They amaze us everyday. We will do another update on these two in a couple of months!
