It feels like just yesterday we were doing posts on all Elijah’s “firsts”. We loved that – recording all his first – and for such a little guy, he sure did experience a lot during his first year. Suddenly here we are looking through pictures of Eli’s 2nd summer (ironically, it is actually his THIRD summer since we take him all over the world – he had a summer with his SA grandparents in February). Time is flying by, and we are trying to soak in as much of it as we can. The days seem to turn into weeks, and the weeks into months. It’s really amazing how much faster time seems to go once you are a parent.
In South Africa, we always called September 1st the first day of Spring, so that would make it Autumn up in the northern hemisphere. Evidently, that is about three weeks too early so I’m not sure why we use that day. This year we moved from summer into fall on September 23rd, based on the Autumnal Equinox, so for the entire month that Elijah and I stayed in the States after Justin left, it was summer. Of course, Texas was still hot and we managed to get in quite a few more pool days than we thought we would.
Here are a few glimpses back at Elijah’s second (northern hemisphere) summer.
[More specifically, these are pictures from September, since in August Justin was still in Texas.]
As you can see, Elijah had many evening swims with Gramps when he got home from work. One week they did this almost every evening, and it led to Eli falling in love with the pool. We couldn’t let him anywhere near the pool or he would try to jump in (no fear – and he is convinced that he can swim). When Gramps was outside mowing the lawn, Eli would stand at the window and watch him. Adorable! It was a quiet month, with lots of downtime. While I spent lots of time creating craft masterpieces (haha, if i don’t say so myself) and recovering from my loss, Elijah got some invaluable time with his grandparents.
It was a blessed time!
