First Impressions: Venice
On we move to the final Italian city that we visited on our epic European Road Trip. Venice is a city in northeastern Italy. It is made up of a group of 117 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by bridges. These are located in the shallow Venetian Lagoon. Parts of Venice are world-famous for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. The lagoon and a part of the city are listed as a World Heritage Site.
Ahhh, Venice… Sweet sweet Venice! What can I say to accurately sum up a place so magical that it is both romantic and oddly-intoxicating at the same time. When we first arrive, my first thought was definitely “WOW!”, and yet my first impressions were nothing compared to how I felt after a few hours, and then after a whole day. It was like Venice had cast a spell over me and the longer we were there, the more in love I fell.
A Lonelyplanet writer, Cristian Bonetto, sums up Venice wonderfully here…
Here are some pictures from our first moments spent wondering around this absolutely awe-inspiring city of Italy.
More on Venice, and the last of our Italian adventures, coming in the next few days.
