We received a free baby photo shoot when we did our maternity shoot back in May. It was located at a different photo studio since each studio seems to specialise in one area, in other words, either maternity pictures or baby portraits, but not both. Finding this new studio and communicating with a whole new set of people proved to have it’s challenges for us – as most things do here in China – but eventually we got the shoot done when Elijah was about 5 weeks old. We were told that we would receive a “book” of his pictures, and we were pretty excited about this. We imagined a hard cover, coffee-table sort of book. Unfortunately, what we received resembled more of a CD cover insert (above) , but we can’t really complain because, 1) there was the language barrier that we faced, and 2) the shoot was free!
I requested a certain outfit and backdrop and evidently got something COMPLETELY different. The hat I asked for Elijah to be photographed in was a long one with a fluffy pom-pom on the end. It was so cute! I had chosen it from the catalogue they gave me when I arrived at the studio. Evidently, they didn’t have that one so they put him in the woollen hat you see pictured here. It might have been more cute if they hadn’t propped the hat up to look so long a perky. I was in the room during the shoot, but I stood back and let the photographer do his thing. I didn’t like the hat, or it’s positioning, but I thought I would wait until they had taken a few pictures and then ask them to move it… Apparently I was too slow because 5 minutes into the shoot and they were packing up. Yup, that was it, 5 minutes had passed and my opportunity to speak up was lost.
Oh well! These aren’t our favourite pictures of Elijah, but he is still adorable nevertheless.
We were unable to get the digital copies of these pictures so I took photos of the book.
The photographer and his assistant were very gentle with Elijah, and they even left us alone in the studio so that I could feed him just before the photo shoot. I guess that happens a lot when you take pictures of young babies all day. We might return to this studio at a later stage for some family photos as we still do not have very many of those. We are waiting for Elijah to be a little stronger so that he can sit up for the pictures.
Here are some pictures from his shoot…
