Your RealAge is a scientific calculation of how young or old your body thinks you really are.
Justin and I did this test, and the results were
fascinating shocking! I did the test once, and discovered that my RealAge is 1.7 years less than my actual age. Not too bad, but I could definitely work on that. This morning I did the test with Justin to see what result he would get. He came out 0.5 years younger than he currently is. That didn’t seem that good compared to mine, BUT while doing the test with him, I realised that I had incorrectly answered many of the answers. Did I lie? No, I simply answered some of them in more of a “general” state. In other words, I answered the questions thinking about my “ordinary state”.
Employed – YES (not true – I am unemployed, and not by choice)
How much do I walk around? (I barely move around at all)
Cardio and Strength training? (hardly any at all)
Diet? (ABSOLUTE FAIL)
I realised that I had completely answered the way that I thought I should answer!
So, very apprehensively, I redid the test!
SHOCK, HORROR… OUTRAGE!
Suddenly my RealAge test showed that I was 5 years old than my actual age!
Therefore even though I am 29.2 years old, my body thinks that I am 34.1 years old at the moment. The funny thing is that a year ago, I felt like I was 20 years old. I was full of energy, and bouncing around. My current RealAge number is a HUGE motivator for me to get out and running on a regularly basis, to do weight training and strength training, and really modify my eating habits. What a big difference a few months can make!
Above left, Justin’s Real Age is roughly the same as his actual age but he could work on getting his body a bit younger. Above right, As you can see – being unemployed, sedentary, and not working out has taken it’s toll on my health!!
For this reason, I’m setting up a challenge for anyone who want to join me.

Let’s make some changes to our lifestyles (listed below), and then redo the test in 3 months to see how much younger we are. I feel quite motivated by these results. Motivated to get healthy, get moving, and to feel younger at 30 than I did at 20. I hope that some of you will join me for the challenge.
Here’s how you can lower your REAL AGE:
STEP ON IT!
By walking a total of 10,000 steps per day, you can make your body two years younger in just six months. Justin and I have pedometers on our iPods and they can track our steps. You can find a pedometer at almost any department store. We used to go for a walk in the evenings if we had not met our 10,000 step goal for the day. We will have to start doing this again. On sightseeing days we would sometimes reach well over 20,000 steps.
This is an obvious one, but most of us fail to meet the essential minimum.
Make sure that you get at least 7-8 hours of sound sleep!!
Get off your butt and start moving ~ You need some cardio in your life!! It doesn’t matter what you prefer to do for exercise, just do something. Walk, run, swim, or play tennis. Just get your heart rate up, and start sweating! Resistance/ weight training keeps you healthy, and should be done in addition to the cardio exercise. It will preserve bone strength and add muscle mass to your body. The added muscle burns calories 24 hours a day and keeps your metabolism high!
We all need sunlight! In fact, by keeping your vitamin D levels up, you can gain back a year of your life. Only 30 minutes of winter sunlight or fifteen minutes of summer sunlight in a short sleeved shirt is all that most people need to keep their vitamin levels adequate. Darker skinned people may need more sunlight while fairer skinned people will require less.
Studies have shown that the same bacteria found in the mouths of people with poor hygiene, causes the ageing of ones blood vessels. This is important to note because the most vital measure of your real age is your heart and blood vessels.
Doctors recommend taking a daily dose of Aspirin, 162mg, to keep your cardiovascular system in good working order. By doing this, you can make yourself two years younger in three years.
Financial stress is one of the most damaging forms of stress and by eliminating it, you will be able to lower your real age by a number of years. Eradicating this excess tension will do wonders for your health. Set out a financial plan, and make sure to keep working towards these goals.
Having sex is an excellent way to stay young! Really – it is! By having sex at least three times a week, you can lower you real age by about 5 years! The important thing to note is that the age reduction has to do with the quality of the sex. Therefore it is not the act of simply having sex, but rather how much love is in the love making that you do. Sooo… This only applies to those married folk out there. The rest of you should be waiting, and working on other ways to lower your real age.
We all know that having fun makes you feel younger, so get up and start having a good time. Run around with kids, go hiking, or start a new hobby. If you feel like doing something relaxing but fun, try a crossword puzzle or a word search. These things exercise your mind, and will all lower your real age.
It is vital that we all learn to read the labels on our foods because what we consume dramatically effects our real age number. Try to avoid saturated fat, trans fat, sugar, hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, and anything that says that it is “enriched”. Steer clear of foods that have any of these substances listed within the first five ingredients.
Try to eat fish three times a week. The oil in fish helps to prevent tears in blood vessels and decrease inflammation in the body. If, however, you do not like eating fish, you can take fish oil capsules at a dose of 2 grams a day. This is roughly equivalent to eating three servings of fish a week.
FRUIT & VEGETABLES
Compared to the others, this should be an easy one to do, but many people struggle to meet the five serving requirement per day. If this one is hard for you, try making smoothies with the fruit and juicing your vegetables.
The healthy fats in nuts are essential for our bodies. I often skip on the nuts but after seeing that my real age isn’t that good, I am looking forward to adding more nuts to my diet. Walnuts have the highest concentration of beneficial fats. All you need is 12 walnuts a day!!
White foods would be bread, flour, sugar, white rice, or white pasta. Eating these increase inflammation which means increased ageing! Avoid these processed, unhealthy, white foods to the best of your ability! I used to completely exclude these from my diet, and I felt amazing. It’s time to go back to basics again… No more white foods!
Take a good daily multi-vitamin in order to make sure that you are getting enough calcium, magnesium, and other essential vitamins. Enough Folic acid, for example, decreases your chances of getting diseases like cancer. A daily intake of 800 mcg of folic acid lowers your real age by a year!
