Gift Opening Breakfast
With Elijah’s third birthday party behind us, we woke up to tons of gifts and decorations. Wanting to make the most of the morning, and catch up on some quality family time (it had been a crazy week), we set up a little birthday breakfast. While I put up some of the party decorations in our dining room, Justin began making breakfast for the three of us.
Not only did Eli have plenty of gifts from his birthday party, but he also had all the gifts that his “Papa and Mimi” (his chosen names for his Texas grandparents) had sent for him. Usually his grandma mails us a box of birthday goodies, but this year Justin went home just before his birthday. It was perfect timing. While he was home, Justin also found the perfect gift to buy Eli.
When our breakfast food was ready, we sat down and had a second little celebration for Eli. Even though we really enjoyed the birthday party, this is much more our type of thing. There were a number of people at Eli’s party, and he kept hiding away, so we decided not to make him open the gifts with everyone around. We also know, from Christmas-time, that Eli doesn’t like to open one present and move onto the next. He likes to play with each gift as he opens it. As you can imagine, this take quite long… but we love it!
Above, Eli looks a little less than impressed in this picture, but he was really happy. I have no idea why he was pulling that face.
Breakfast and Gifts
While we ate, we slowly began to open each gift, starting with the party gifts first.
It is so fun seeing Eli’s face light up as he realizes that something interesting is in the wrapping or gift bag. He said “Cool!” to each and every gift. It must have been so exciting to him.
We called Texas just as we started opening the box of gifts that Papa and Mimi sent. It was a Friday night where they were, and we knew that they would be happy share in this experience with us.
So they sat and watched, cheering and clapping with Eli. It was just so sweet…
In order to show Papa and Mimi just how adorable Eli was when it came to candle blowing time, we decided to put a candle in some pancakes. Of course, when he saw the 3-shaped candle, his face just lit up with joy!
His cake had three magic candles that kept re-lighting each time he blew them out. He thought it was hilarious, and so did we. The bakery had given us a three for his cake, so we decided to use it for his birthday breakfast. Look at that face – he was so impressed! He kept saying, “I’m fweee”
While this was happening, Mimi and Papa were singing on my iPhone, and I was taking pictures of it all.
Quite the set up, wow! But once again, we are reminded of just how amazing technology is. We are so appreciative of the fact that we can share special moments like this LIVE!
And if none of that made you “awwwww..”, then look at the above picture. That is how our sweet boy kisses his family members who are far away. A big juicy kiss, right on the phone screen. It is just toooo darn cute!
First Lego Set
Eli’s final gift was a big Duplo Lego set that we got him from the States. He has only ever played with Lego at friend’s houses. He loves the little accessories – like the people, pots, and food – but he was so thrilled to be able to move each person around the house. Again, his joy was just so amazing to watch.
Justin and I had built this Lego house for him the night before. We wanted to show it to him all built, and I am happy that we did. It was the prefect way to present it to him.
I love that we did this. It was amazing to share some birthday time with family far away, to open gifts together, and make the most of the last day of Eli’s birthday weekend. The entire weekend had been full of fun and adventure, and this was the perfect ending to that. Check out Eli’s other birthday-related posts here:
