Lately I have been feeling very grateful, and completely filled with joy. Obviously those feelings could be attributed to the fact that I’m excited about our baby boy being born later this month, but I think that it is also because I genuinely feel a lot of gratitude lately. The weather is good. I have lots of energy. The school year is ending soon — that means we will have some time off together soon, with our new baby. As you can see in the picture above, Qingdao looks really beautiful right now! There are also some other exciting things happening, and we hope to be able to tell you about those things in a couple of weeks. For now, here’s a quick look at a few things that have really been making me feel grateful lately.
Last week I joined a group of Qingdao mommas for their monthly lunch date. Mostly of them attend the church that we go to so I am getting to know many of them quite well. This was the second lunch like this that I have had the opportunity to go to since I’m still working full-time. The first time I went to a lunch like this it was held at Qingdao’s Le Meridien Hotel and the buffet was incredible! Check that lunch out here: Buffet Lunch @ “The Latest Recipe”. May’s lunch was located at the newly built Westin Hotel downtown. After feasting on some delicious food, a few of us took a tour of this amazing hotel. The view from the 54th floor executive lounge (pictured above) was quite impressive! A night in one of the finer suites here will cost you a whopping 4,000rmb per night (FYI that’s $640). This is currently the tallest building in Qingdao so I was quite happy that I got to see the view from one of the upper levels. I’m grateful to be able to meet up with other ladies who live in this city. Most of them have children, and they have been very friendly, wanting to know about our baby and how they can help out once he comes. I really appreciate this!
It seems I have had many quiet moments lately… all alone, no talking, just chilling. During this last week I went to Starbucks and did nothing at all. I sat eating a sandwich, drinking a tasty frappuccino and enjoying the fact that I can do these things. It may not seem like much to some of you, but being able to do this is a luxury and I am grateful for these quiet times.
I am beyond grateful for how awesome the weather has been lately. It’s hot but pleasant, and even though I am now 37 weeks pregnant, I have been experiencing more and more energy as the weeks go by. I use this energy to go for walks, skipping the bus sometimes, and choosing rather to stroll a few blocks and enjoy the clean air, blue skies, and warm temperatures.
With little in the way of decorating options here – I am grateful for my artistic abilities and the fact that I can create personalised artwork for our son’s nursery. He has a small room, but I have already put up a couple of things on the wall above his crib. In fact, that’s the only wall available to decorate. One “wall” is a huge sliding door, another is all window, and the last one is covered by a large cupboard. It’s a small space, but I have enjoyed making things for Eli.
I’m grateful for the fact that I barely have to cook anything at all lately. My husband has been spoiling me! He cooks dinner every night now, and even makes sure to prepare a lunchbox for me to take to school too (since the cafeteria food at our school is not very nutritious). I used to take on these responsibilities myself, unless I was tired, but now I don’t even have to think about them… he just does them without asking! In the afternoons I have really appreciated the tasty veggies and fruits available in China right now. Steamed edamame – Hmmm, a great afternoon snack!!
I am 100% grateful for the bundle of joy that we are about to be blessed with! Crazy thing is that contrary to what I initially though, I am now excited about having my baby, and much of my previous anxiety about giving birth in China has disappeared. I pray that this remains true even on the day I go into labour, but for now I am enjoying the PEACE that has come over me lately.
With the recent great weather and the disappearance of pollution from our skies, we have been enjoying stunning sunsets. This was the view from Eli’s room a few nights ago. I was relaxing on our bed when Justin called for me to come and see how beautiful the sky looked. He knows how simple things such as this make me very happy. I am grateful for our apartment, the view that we have, and the fact that we now love looking at the sky in China!
All-in-one jammies – Totally cool!
This man is the thing that I am MOST grateful for! His love, his support, his sense of humour, and the fact that he has been incredibly supportive through this pregnancy (and always). The nightly foot massages, dinners, doing classes for me, sorting laundry, and all the other little things that he does so that I can feel relaxed and ready for our baby’s arrival. It’s not that he does these things because I can’t (since I have more energy now that I did a few weeks ago), but rather he does them out of love. I am able to rest so much because he does so much! I can’t wait to see him lying around with Eli sleeping on his chest, or in his arms. I know that this sight is going to MELT MY HEART!!!
What are you grateful for lately?
