It’s that time of year again, when the weather is much cooler (for us folk up here in the northern hemisphere) and we are bursting with excitement to put up the Christmas tree. We would have done it last weekend, but we decided to wait until the day after Thanksgiving because we are all about starting traditions now that we have a son. I didn’t know a thing about Thanksgiving until I met my amazing other half. He was the one that introduced me to it, and ironically enough, I have never been as thankful as I have been in the last five years. Although this would be the 5th Thanksgiving I am spending with my sweetheart, this will only be the 2nd time that we will be celebrating the day with food, family and friends. Our American family are far far away, but we will be spending this evening with our “China-family” and we are very excited about that.
I truly hope that today you all get a chance to spend quality time with the people that you love. Whether it’s family, friends, loved ones or even strangers. Make the best of it! Living the life of an expat is especially challenging on days like today, but God has given us friends that have shown us love and we are grateful to spend this evening with them.
Here are the things that I am thankful for this year…
I am thankful for the amazing life that God has given me. Full of love, laughter and adventure.
I am thankful for my incredible husband and how supportive he always is. He is truly amazing!
I am thankful for the blessing of becoming a mother, and being able to love this beautiful child.
I am thankful for a healthy body, a joy-filled pregnancy, and a (relatively) pleasant labor.
I am thankful that I have been been able to stay home with Eli, and share everyday with him.
I am thankful for the growth and self-discovery that I have experienced over the last few months.
I am thankful for recently forged friendships that have made China feel more like home.
I am thankful for friends in SA who make me feel like I’m still right there with them.
I am thankful for the ability to make, and save, money of trips home to see our loved ones.
I am thankful for challenging situations and people, because without them we would never grow.
(That last one is a little tough to remain thankful for… but I try!)
Today is a day to give thanks and remember all that we have been blessed with.
What are you thankful for today?
