Jaun Pass is a high mountain pass, at an elevation of 1509 meters, in the Swiss Alps. It links Charmey and Jaun, in the canton of Fribourg, with Reidenbach in the canton of Bern. The pass itself is located within the Canton of Bern. We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful drives through this part of Switzerland. We stopped to get out and admire the views a number of times. It was just too breathtaking to stay in the car for the entire journey. With all of the bends and winding roads, it is easy to miss a rest stop, so we had to look out carefully for them.
The Canton of Bern lies in the heart of Switzerland. It is a bilingual canton and thus acts as a major bridge between the country’s German- and French-speaking communities. That is one of the reasons why the city of Bern, as the federal capital, is also Switzerland’s main political hub.
We stood at this viewing point, overlooking the valley below and mountain peaks out ahead of us. It felt like we were on top of the world. Look at the snow on those mountains, IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER! These pictures don’t even do this sight justice. Switzerland is just breathtaking!
A panoramic sign, depicting all of the peaks visible from here…
Back in the car-sweet-car (our road trip “home” for two months). You can’t seem him in this post, but Eli was sitting in his carseat. He was either taking a nap or learning his ABC’s. We never took him out of the car when we were on a steep cliff, or where he wouldn’t be able to run around freely. This was a mommy and daddy stop!
