Temple of Peace and Tranquility
Jing’an Temple is a Buddhist temple on West Nanjing Road, in Shanghai. We had read positive things about this temple, both online and in our China Lonely Planet. It was very easy to reach by subway. Funny enough, as we exited the station, we didn’t know where to go. We asked a local where the temple was, and she said that there wasn’t one!
After heading up this stairway, it was pretty obvious that she was wrong.
The temple was across the street!!
The outer walls of the temple
The main hall.
How lovely of that car to ruin the shot!!
The contrast between the modern surrounding buildings, and the traditional buddhist architecture was quite striking! As Lonely Planet commenting: “The temple somehow manages to sum up Shanghai: 5% traditional, 95% rebuilt”
Relaxing, and reading the paper!
Peaceful day walking about.
