Juice Fast #2: Day 7&8. Another combo day. This week I am working a couple of mornings, some afternoons, and even a bit of both on some days. It is crazy how little I have to say about the fast on this second round, but I think that is good to record my progress and feelings because I like referring back to these endeavors. This fast has definitely been a completely different experience to the one that I did in 2013. I’ll discuss that more later, after the juice fast is done.
Day 7 was a very normal day. I barely felt like I was on a juice fast, but I was very happy to have reached day 7. Seven days, a whole week!! Despite thinking that I would be feeling a lot more detox symptoms by now, I really did feel normal today. I made my favorite “winter juice fast treat” (see “Dinner” below). With the weather so cold, and wanting to sit around the table with my boys at night, I enjoy this “soup” because it makes me feel like I’m having a meal with them. Truth is, it is just a warmed up tomato juice, but that’s okay. It really hits the spot!
Breakfast and Lunch: 4 apples, 4 carrots, 2 lemons.
Two snacks: 6 kale leaves, 2 cucumbers, 2 celery stalks, 1 apple, 1/2 lemon, 1 inch ginger
Dinner: 6 tomatoes, 2 stalks of celery and 2 red bell peppers
Effects: Nothing much in the way of detox effects today.
Day 8 was rough! Elijah is sick – he has some sort of throat infection. So even though I didn’t feel much in the way of detoxification symptoms, I did feel drained. I worked in the morning, and the rest of the day Eli needed me, desperately! I was therefore not able to make my juices until well into the afternoon and I was quite drained after that wait. It was a day filled with sad raspy cries from little man, and it was clear that his throat is currently very sore. If he is not a little better tomorrow, we might have to make a trip to the International Clinic.
In the evening it was me that was flooded with emotions. It was intense! The last few months haven’t been easy, and I’m feeling a lot. The strange thing is that I feel like I worked through a lot this evening, and needless to say, I needed to do that. Fasting is a roller coaster ride full of ups, downs, swerves and turns. During a fast, you can be flying high on exhilaration and then unexpectedly nose-dive into physical weakness and disturbing emotions. The body does the work of cleansing in cycles alternating between two very different states. In one state, you feel amazing, and, in the cleansing state, you feel bad. Feeling good is a sign the fast is working; feeling bad is a sign of detoxification. Every faster will experience the cleansing periods during a fast. Apparently, many bail out in disillusionment during these periods. So I’m pushing on… And hoping that tomorrow will be better!
