Juice Fast: Day 21
So here’s a crazy thought… I am on day 21 of a juice fast! Yup, that’s right, no solid food for 21 days straight. The longest I have ever done is 16 days. Justin and I did that one together back in 2014. I fell pregnant with Eli shortly after that juice fast. Earlier this year I started my first one since I stopped breastfeeding (no fasting while pregnant or breastfeeding since your body releases toxins) but my juicer broke on day 9!
I wholeheartedly believe in the mental and physical healing power of fasting, and that is why I am still going strong on this juice fast. The last year has been a tough one for me. That is why I went on this particular fast by myself. I needed to do it alone because I was in a rut, not knowing how long I wanted to go, and needing a “reset”. I also didn’t want to drag Justin along with me unless he REALLY wanted to do it.
“Fasting has been called a “reset” button for your sense of taste; the body and palette get cleansed of chemicals and impurities, giving you a keener ability to fully taste foods and more fully enjoy the true flavors of simple foods. There are often many foods that hold less appeal after a fast, especially “dead” foods and ones full of chemicals which you can clearly taste after a fast.”
The above quote, and the following benefits are taken from AllAboutFasting.com. >> Check out this site for some great info and tips on all forms of fasting!!

How is it Going?
So how is this extended juice fast going? Well, I wish I had more to tell you, but I don’t. It is going REALLY well. In fact, it barely feels like I am doing a fast at all. I am getting all of the calories that I need from the juices. I am not craving anything. And quite honestly, I feel great! Every few days I have a “detox day” where I feel tired and my tongue gets coated in yellow muck, but even when that happens I feel a sense go joy knowing that my body is healing even more.
How Much Longer?
I have decided to go until 30 days. I thought that I would have wanted to quit by now, but I haven’t had that desire yet. My only gripe has been that I miss warm food on cold days. For comfort, I juice a few tomatoes, a red pepper, garlic and some coriander – Pictured above. I heat that mixture up, and it sends me to a happy place!
I started off doing a daily video diary, but I accidentally deleted a couple of those so I stopped doing them. In the end it is probably not a bad thing since I really don’t have much to report on. I wish I could give some amazing story about how I had to fight off cravings, and that I am battling against all odds… But I can’t! As I said above, this has been weirdly easy! I’m wondering how the heck I haven’t been able to stick to anything for the last year, and here and I smooth-sailing through 30 days of no solid food. HUH?
I’ll be sure to share more on the research I have been doing on juice fasting. I have read that extended juice fasts can help with fertility issues, so I am hoping that it helps me with those issues too.
I’ll try update again before I reach 30 days!
