Juice fast#2: Day 5&6. A two-in-one update for all of you since I’ve been busy and haven’t felt much like blogging (which is crazy since I loooove blogging!). Day five I hit a slump, and by that I mean the juice fast really started to work. Day six wasn’t as bad, but I wasn’t feeling as great as when the juice fast started. It seems I started detoxing pretty late.
Day 5 was definitely a detox day! I woke up with a headache and nausea. It was not a pleasant day, and to top it off, Eli seemed to be getting sick. I was tempted to quit the fast, but there was no way that I could quit in the middle of a detoxing phase, so I pushed through. Still absolutely no hunger at all. In fact, I didn’t make it through all of my juice (which I prepared around midday), and I ended up throwing some of it out. No desire to eat and no desire to drink the juices, which was kind of refreshing since I usually want to eat non-stop.
Breakfast and Lunch: 10 kale leaves, 2 handfuls spinach, 6 romaine leaves,
2 cucumber, 6 celery stalks, 2 apples, 2 lemons.
Snacks: 2 apples, 2 tomatoes, 6 carrots, 2inch pieces of ginger, 3 handfuls of lefty greens.
Dinner: 1 sweet potato, 2 Asian pears, 1 apple, 1 cup blueberries
Effects: Today I felt a whole list of symptoms. Headaches, no energy, moodiness, ketosis, thick white coating on my tongue, furry feeling on my teeth, slight nausea, and late last night I noticed a boil developing on my inner thigh. OUCH! I researched the symptoms and both cold sores (started on day 2) and boils are potential results of a much needed detoxification. My mind seemed really foggy and I couldn’t think clearly for most of the day.
Day 6 went much better in terms of the detoxification symptoms. In fact, I didn’t feel that bad at all but I was frustrated, moody, and fed up. Not even taking this Juice Fast into account, I am really struggling with the winter blues, and not being able to eat on top of that made me grumpy yesterday. A lot of people have commented things like, “I could never do a juice fast, I love food too much”. Well, those people must not know me very well. If anyone loves food, IT’S ME! That’s exactly why I love doing juice fasts because it takes me from “I live to eat” to “I eat to live”. I haven’t been exercising because during a juice fast your body needs to relax and not be under stress. This gives the body the much needed break it needs in order to detox and then repair. Today was the first day that I didn’t reach my 10,000 steps. On day 1-5 I walked on the treadmill at the end of the day in order to make sure that I got to 10k, but yesterday I couldn’t be bothered!
Breakfast and Lunch: 2 green apples, 2 oranges, 6 handfuls of leafy greens
Snacks: 3 cups of grapes, 1 handful of blueberries, and 15 kale leaves
Dinner: 6 tomatoes, 2 red bell peppers, 2 stalks of celery
Effects: Today I had waves of moodiness, followed by waves of intense productivity, but overall I didn’t have much energy. I’m sure I didn’t drink enough juice yesterday and I was feeling the effects of that. Tomorrow I will be sure to drink all of my juice so that I keep my caloric needs fulfilled.
