The hubs is a year older! A few more grey hairs, maybe a couple of new fine line… and yet, he seems to get more handsome as the years go by. Isn’t that funny?! … How men get more attractive as the time goes by?
I couldn’t have been happier to have arrived safely back in China the day before Justin’s birthday. Talk about great timing (yes, of course, we planned that). On the morning of his birthday, I woke up at 4am – thanks to jetlag-disorientation – and started decorating the lounge. I assumed that Justin and Eli would wake up around 5am, so I made sure to have everything set up as quickly as possible. I then went to bake some muffins and prepare breakfast for the three of us. Justin’s parents had sent a few gifts for him, and I had bought him something special just before I left the States. Justin strolled out of our bedroom around 5am (SPOT ON – I know him so well!) and we decided that he would open his gifts before Elijah woke up. After that, we had some coffee and enjoyed a few quiet moments alone until Elijah surfaced and it was time for breakfast. Amazingly enough, we still had a tiny bit of energy by 9am so we got ready for church. As a surprise, our sweet friend, Gretchen, had bought a delicious cheesecake for Justin. We all sang to him, and he blew out a candle for his birthday. I’m grateful for that kind gesture! Thank you Robb and Gretchen! After fellowship, Robb and Gretchen offered to take Eli for a few hours so that Justin and I could go for lunch. Can you believe it… we had to decline because we were so tired that we could barely keep our eyes open!! We went back to our apartment and I ended up sleeping from 2pm until 8pm. We had hoped to go out for a buffet dinner, but by the time we all woke up, it was too late. Thankfully, all that Justin cared for/ wanted on his birthday was to have Elijah and I back in China, by his side. So despite me wishing that I could have done more for his birthday – he got exactly what he had wished for!
My husband’s birthday always seems to fall right in the middle of the busiest time of the year for us. On the first year we were leaving Boracay Island in the Philippines, the next we were in Dongying, China, the following we were in Texas saving every penny we had for our wedding (100 balloons Birthday surprise), on his fourth birthday together I made him 30 gifts for his 30th, and last year we had a 3 month old baby and we went back to the Philippines once more. I can’t believe that this is the 6th birthday of his that we have spent together – What a blessing!
Justin got some pretty sweet gifts for his birthday (if I don’t say so myself). His mom sent some funny gifts, like a fresh bag – as fresh as it could be after traveling across the world – of homemade caramel corn. I bought him a new gadget, which I’m sure you’ll hear about in upcoming posts, and he’s really excited to use it. All in all, it was a wonderful birthday, even though once again, it fell in a busy/ tired/ travel time. I would have felt terrible if Justin was all alone on his birthday, so I’m just happy that Elijah got over his flu, and we made it back to China in time for Justin’s birthday.
