La Grapperia @ Spice Route
After a wonderful session of craft beer tasting for the guys, chocolate tasting for the ladies, ice cream for the kids, and then a stroll around the beautiful grounds at the Spice Route Destination, Paarl, we grabbed a table and sat down for lunch at La Grapperia. This restaurant serves a selection of wood-fired, thin base Pizza, Flammkuchen (which means “flame cake”, and translates as “pie baked in the flames”) and tapas, with a glass of Wine on Tap. La Grapperia is situated right next-door to the distillery.
During summer you can relax in a casual atmosphere under the oak trees and, during the colder months, inside by the fireplace, while taking in some of the most spectacular views that the Spice Route Destination has to offer. It was a beautiful afternoon, so we sat under the trees at a long table overlooking the vineyards, with the mountains in the distance.
“Only 40 minutes’ drive from the city and 800m from Fairview Wine and Cheese, Spice Route is the perfect day-trip destination for the whole family. Spice Route offers a collection of artisanal products made by passionate craftsmen. Visitors will be taken on a voyage of discovery, which will enrich their minds and offer a Cape Winelands experience like no other.”
|Salsa Con Nachos|
Look at those delicious Nachos with melted cheese and spicy tomato salsa! Baby Eli fell asleep in his Ergo carrier, and as you can see in the picture below, and he didn’t wake up through any of the surrounding chatter, the pictures, or even me drinking a Hunters Apple Cider. Tayla was eager to take him to the grass area nearby to play, but she waited patiently for him to get his rest.

The atmosphere out on the grass, and under the trees, was absolutely perfect!
Justin and I ordered a salad and a pizza. The Famer’s Salad, consisting of lettuce, onion, tomato, carrot, cucumber, feta cheese, ham and boiled egg, was the best choice on a warm summer’s day. The Matta Pizza, with bacon and banana, was Justin’s choice, and he couldn’t have been happier, especially since he washed that down with a ice cold craft beer.
Tayla and Eli were having such a good time, that we snuck off to take a few pictures of them.
They are so sweet together. Look at him reaching up to touch her face…
Another gorgeous afternoon spent with friends in South Africa. More happy memories made with good friends, old and new. Check out our other posts from this afternoon here: Craft Beer Tasting and Chocolate Tasting.
