La Grapperia – A Cozy Winter Spot
If Only There was More Time
All the Giggles
It warms my heart to see how much this family loves our little Eli. They couldn’t wait for us to get home so that they could see him. We always think that as the years go by, things will change. The opposite it true though. Each visit is more special than the last, and despite the weather, we always have a good time. We love that the Blankenbergs enjoy getting out and exploring, like we do. They have the same zest for life, so it is a real pleasure to spend time with them.
I heard Eli giggling on the grassy area outside La Grapperia. I heard Clinton and Tayla laughing too. When I walked over to see what they were doing, I found all three of them running and playing. It made my heart so happy! It also took me back to 2015, when Tayla spent ages playing with Eli on this same patch of grass…
Winter vs Summer
Look at the contrast between these views! Above is the winter view that we had this July 2017, and below is the summer view that we had in February 2015. The fact that the Western Cape is in the middle of a long drought could also be influencing that brown color. The sun was setting, also giving off a golden glow over the farms and vineyards. But nevertheless, I love the contrast between the views. Our experiences were that different too – a perfect depiction.
When we were here in the summer, we commented on how nice it must be to sit inside during the winter. AND IT WAS! There weren’t more than three other tables, so the restaurant was quiet. Although we didn’t want full meals, we did order a decent amount of food and thoroughly enjoyed all of it.
While I was outside, taking pictures, Justin ordered me this Cheese Platter. It was absolutely amazing and, of course, worked well for my keto-journey! The only problem was that after the wine tasting, then the beer tasting, the cheese did not sit well in my stomach. At the time, I thought that it was all too rich for me. Only later did I realize that in my first 12-13 weeks of Keto, I was not “fat adapted” (which means that alcohol often made me feel ill). The rest of the evening was rather unpleasant for me. I had intense nausea, which was very unfortunate because we had a fun dinner planned downtown. Oh well – the good memories of the day remain intact and nothing was ruined.
La Grapperia, and Spice Route on a whole, has proven to be a great place, in both winter and summer. What we love most about Cape Town is that life there is so full of exploration opportunities. If we lived there, we would never run out of exciting things to do. If you haven’t been to Spice Route, you definitely need to check it out.
