Hoffman Lake House, Lake HendricksWe arrived at Lake Hendricks early in the day, and were welcomed by Marge and Don (Sue’s parents). They were very happy to see us, and fortunately we had all taken a nap after our early morning breakfast stop at Hardee’s, so we were all feeling cheerful and ready to socialise. Thank goodness for that morning rest after the 16 hour drive from Texas to South Dakota.
It was wonderful to meet Justin’s grandparents, because I felt like I already knew them from all the stories I had heard!! We spent day two of the road trip at the lake… relaxing, eating, and catching up. Grandma Marge was always thinking about what meal she would make next, even when we were all too stuffed to think.

Peaceful and relaxing
We sat outside for a while taking in the scenic surroundings. I could spend weeks out here at a lake house, just relaxing and reading. Maybe one year we can come back and spend more time with Marge and Don at the lake. I love it here.

We went for a run in the neighbourhood. It was so peaceful. The fresh air and change of scenery kept me going for far longer than I normally run. When I got back to the house, the family had dinner ready and we all sat down to eat a delicious meal together… with lots of coolies for dessert, of course!
Thank you Grandma Marge!
I got to see tons of photo albums and hear many stories about the family. Grandpa Don even showed us his photo album from the Korean War. He was an Airforce pilot in the early 50’s, and he had been stationed in Seoul. He kept blurting out random “Korean phrases”… None of which we recognised. Nevertheless, it was funny listening to his stories… and it was a good time for Justin to bond with his grandfather after many years.
