It has been almost three weeks since we returned from our Australia-New Zealand. Three weeks! How crazy that almost a month can fly by SO QUICKLY! Pretty soon we would have been home for a month, and then soon after that our latest trip will feel like it was “ages ago”. I don’t know when it started to happen, but the months move by so swiftly these days. Later this month I turn 33, and in three months our little baby turns three. This post is a little update on life in general – to let you know what has been happening around here since we returned from Australasia.
“Australasia”, a region of Oceania, comprises Australia, New Zealand,
the island of New Guinea, and neighbouring islands in the Pacific Ocean.
“ARE YOU ALL SETTLED IN?”. As you know, we arrived back late on a Sunday night, and then hit the ground running. We were back to school and work bright and early on Monday, and here we are, three weeks in! All three of us settled in really quickly, and I’m sure that this is because we have done three trips within a year. We pretty much just rolled back into routine without any hitches. It helped that we flew back to China during the day, so no sleep was lost and only a couple of time zones were crossed. Even now, three weeks later, we still keep getting asked, “Are you all settled in?” I have to giggle because we felt like we were “all settled in” once we had walked in the front door and unpacked our bags.
SIX MONTH GIG. As mentioned in a previous post, I started a short term afternoon job. Like the rest of my work, it is home-based. I can’t be more happy with this opportunity, BUT some days I feel really tired by 6pm when we sit down to have dinner! The days feel full and long now… Take Full-time Working Mom + Stay at Home Mom = My Current Role. Working from home for 5-6 hours a day, editing photos shoots in the mornings, doing photoshoots 2-3 times a week, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and caring for Eli. No doubt about it, the next five months with be FULL, but I am working towards a big financial goal. A big motivator for me!
SUSHI DATE. At the 2016 ISQ Christmas Fair, we won an envelope of vouchers. Just like the year before, we didn’t end up using 90%
of them, but we didn’t want to let the 100rmb sushi voucher go to waste. After a morning photo shoot, we went for lunch at RAKI. We did a post about this sushi restaurant back in May of 2016. Check out that Anniversary date at Raki HERE.
MY SUPPORT TEAM. These two are so supportive. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am! They went with me to a shoot last year, and played on a jungle gym while I photographed a family around their apartment complex. Last week they joined me, yet again. This time they walked to a nearby shopping mall since I was shooting in a private home. I love them so much!
CAPTURED By Cat PHOTOGRAPHY. My spring calendar is filling up FAST! I have bookings as far ahead as September! That might not sound super amazing to a well-established photographer – but little ol’ me just started up a few months ago, so I am thrilled!
WEATHER. It snowed last week – pretty fascinating, and awesome to wake up to, but it had melted before 10am. It was also REALLY windy that day, so we didn’t go outside to play. Eli therefore has still never touched snow – Qingdao is just not a snowy sort of place, and we migrate south in the winter!
FITNESS ROUTINE. We have been amazing in this area… no, really! Amazing. We have been getting up every morning at 5am. I get up first and put on my workout clothes. While I am on the treadmill, Justin sets up the workout mats, weights, water and workout clip. We have to pack all the workout equipment away on a daily basis since Eli likes to pick up the weights. There is a good chance that he is going to drop a 4kg dumbbell on his little foot someday, so we would rather not take any chances. After my 30-45min run, we start a workout. At the moment we are on week three of 21 day fix. Although we have been on point for the fitness routine, I must be eating too much because I am NOT seeing results like I normally do. A little de-motivating, but I will push through and hope for some good results soon!!
PLAYTIME. Eli and I have been to playtime a couple of times since we got back from Australasia. You might remember that we spoke of his dramatic developments after we returned from Europe last year. This year, we noticed another big jump after returning home. He seems to really thrive on the full days of activity and contact time with both mom and dad. I have no doubt about it that he will do really great in school! At playtime lately, he is one of the only kids NOT sitting with mom and doing the actions to songs. Instead he stands in the middle of the room, surrounded by 25-30 moms and their kids, and walks around like a king. He is not shy AT ALL! He certainly didn’t get this from me. Look at his face while Tash sings and does actions…
So there you have it – you’re all caught up on life lately! Due our extensive travels over the last year, we still have hundreds of posts to do in that regard. We do our best to keep you all caught up in the other areas, but as you can tell, there are many photos shoots and travel stories to show.
Thank you for following us!
