Today we are remembering all those lazy days spent by the pool, or just around the house. They may not be the most exciting days, but they are definitely among the days that we love the most. Family, friends, relaxation and lots of happiness. We don’t get to do these things where we live in China, so whenever we return home (to both Texas and Cape Town) our moments spent at home, and around the pool, are very precious to us. This time we got to share these moments with our sweet baby boy, and that made these memories even more unforgettable for us. Here is a look at some of memories of being at home, in Cape Town…
|Playing with the doggies|
We were worried about how things would go with five small dogs and a crawling baby. It only took a couple of days and they were all happy. One of the dogs (pictured alone above), Lucky, was so protective of Eli that he followed him everywhere that he went. He even got locked in the bedroom with Elijah, after we had put him to bed one evening. A couple of hours passed and we couldn’t find Lucky, so we opened Eli’s door and out came Lucky – so sweet! As you can see above, this pup was the only one that would allow Elijah touch him. He loves to be kissed on the neck, and Eli loves giving (very wet) kisses. It worked out well for both! All that playing leaves a baby exhausted…
With a whole house to explore, we often had to go searching for Elijah if he got too quiet. One afternoon he got into a drawer, and opened up some earbuds. He tried to eat a few of them, of course, and left the rest scattered across the floor.
It is always fun having visitors over. Samantha, the pregnant fairy, came over to visit a couple of times, and we had a lot of fun outside in the pool. My uncle Norman came down from England, and he got to meet Elijah for the first time too.
We often walked to the store, but if we need something quick, we would hop in the car with my dad and go for a short drive to pick up whatever we wanted. Elijah almost always ended up in the backseat, asleep, with a stick of biltong or dried sausage in his hand!
|Lots of quality time with Oupie|
Grandpa loved the time that he got to spend with Elijah. It was great to see how well they got along. Every day that we were home, my father would cook us a delicious meal. He is such a great cook! One evening, he made bobotie (above, top right) and yellow rice. This is one of Justin’s favourite South African meals. Another great dish he made for us a couple of times was chicken pie (above, bottom right), and he added extra pastry for me since that is my favourite part. What a wonderful father he is!
Every night, after a fun day by the pool, Elijah would get to play in the bath.
We love these memories of being at home, and we are glad that we had the opportunity to spend as much quality time at home as we did!
