Leader Plaza’s Play Area. Just one block away from where we live is a shopping mall, called Leader (or “Lida”). A few weeks ago, while out grocery shopping, we realized that an entire new wing had been added to this mall. Leader GuangChang has gone from having a few decent food and shopping options, to quite the gem. It now has an amazing play zone for kids, a variety of restaurants offering different cuisines (Japanese, Chinese, Western, and Korean), a 3D art area, great accessory stores, a number of cafes and ice cream parlors, an art area for children, a big carousal, and bumper cars. There is even a children’s hair salon, with cute airplanes for the kids to sit in while they have their hair cut. All of this just a block away from where we live.
To those in Qingdao who haven’t yet been to Leader GuangChang, specifically the new wing – go check it out. There is plenty to keep the kids busy, and a nice selection of food options for after they’ve worked up an appetite. I told my friend, Liz, to meet me at Leader a couple of weeks ago. Her two daughters are around Eli’s age, so we took the three of them to the play area and then to lunch. It was a fun morning. Here are some pictures from that outing…
There is a big enclosed area with “Ball Blasters” located all around the second level of this area. There are large suction pipes from the lower level that relocated the foam balls back to the upper level. This means that there are almost always balls upstairs. You aim the “Ball Blasters” towards different goals and then fire away. Our three where a little too young for this area, but the floors were padded and it was a safe zone so they still enjoyed it a lot.
The play area wraps around a massive double story ball pit, with slides, tunnels, and nets for climbing. For very young kids there is a “less active” area where they can attempt large foam puzzles, play on see-saws, and build a giant foam house. There is also a padded rock wall where kids can practice their climbing skills.
We had good time in this play area. I think that the entrance fee was about 70rmb per child, which I thought was quite steep, but it is quite an extensive area. If you live in Qingdao and find yourself in the LaoShan area, go check out Leader Plaza’s Play Area. The kids will really enjoy it!
