Elijah really enjoys his “Leaf Play”. When we get outside, he runs towards the leaves and almost dives into them. I say “when we get outside” because we tend to stay indoors a lot when it gets cold outside. In fact, here’s a crazy thought – we recently counted a whole 10 CONSECUTIVE DAYS that Elijah and I hadn’t left the house at the beginning of this month. Things got really chilly for a while, then mildly tolerable, and now it’s freezing again. We live just above the fruit and veggie store, Justin works right across the road from a large grocery store, and I work from home. Now that we have the online ordering-thing figured out, we also get a lot of what we need delivered right to our door. We basically don’t need to leave the house at all. It is wonderful! It helps that I absolutely love our home, and that we have slowly but surely made it into our own little happy place. The three of us do not like the cold temperatures, so thankfully for Eli and I, we don’t have to leave at all if we don’t want to.
There have been some days that looked pretty outside, so when we want to brave the cold, we take Elijah down to play in the leaves. Last week, there were a number of leaf piles ready to be demolished by little man. He pulls the funniest faces while he is playing…
There are a few tree-filled areas in our complex, and, at the moment, each one seems to be covered in a different shade of fallen leaves. Walking among these areas is very pretty, but Elijah sometimes seems to just want to dig to the bottom of the leaves and play with the muddy soil underneath them.
Below, We found a shaded little area that was completely covered in yellow, fan-shaped leaves…
It is often quite difficult to get good pictures of Elijah, since he now moves quickly (and faster with each month that passes) and doesn’t turn to look at the camera. In fact, no amount of shouting his name will make him turn to face us. Many times I’ve looked at Justin and said, “Do you think he can hear us at all?” haha, he’s selective hearing skills are pretty impressive! He is always on a mission, and in China that can be difficult since there seem to be dangers lurking around every corner. Like on this day, he fell over and almost hit his face into a random chunk of concrete with pieces of metal sticking out of it. Above you can see him running amongst the bamboo plants. They are quite thick at the top so we couldn’t follow behind him, and once he wandered in there he had no interest in coming out. He almost always puckers up his lips, makes a “doo adoo adoooo” sound, and frowns while he is exploring. It is hilarious!
With all the rain (and now, snow) these leaves will all soon be gone.
While they are still here we love looking at the last few remnants of the beautiful fall colors.
