Marathon Training Begins│Oh my goodness… I feel like I’m starting to sound like a broken record. Motivation has been coming and going, but nothing has quite stuck! Looking at the above picture, Dallas Marathon 2012, I remember my determination back then and I wonder how I used to do it. Winter is rolling in, the pollution levels are increasing, and each day there seems to be more and more reason NOT to get outside. I do however, desperately, want to get fit and feeling healthy again. Since my previous attempts at self-motivation have been failing, I have decided to sign up for a marathon, announce it here (for accountability), and begin training.
There is a marathon that I would like to do in the middle of January. I can’t find many options for the beginning of the year, and this particular race is a trail run. Oh my gosh – I don’t know if I can run a full marathon OFF ROAD. Flat, straight, and minimum hills. I can do that. But trail running is INTENSE! I am hoping that this motivates to me to train more diligent. Trail running would require a strong core and legs. It would also mean I have to not focus on losing weight, but rather on getting strong and fit! That being said, there isn’t that much time (14 weeks) so I really don’t have any time to drag my feet! I haven’t entered the race yet, but I did start a training program yesterday.
MapMyRun Trainer is a nice app because it allows you to enter your level, your running requirements, and race date. Based on all of the info that you input, it formulates a training schedule for you. It also gives you the ability to alter the schedule as you go. For example, I was going to go hiking this morning so I did my weekly pace run yesterday instead of this morning. The days are easy to move around. Each day, even rest days, come with tips and healthy reminders. Yesterday I was reminded to prepare healthy snacks for the week. Today I am going to make a few snack packs and salad years for the next three days.
If this app sounds like something that would motivate you – download it for free HERE. And if you want to jump onboard and train for a January/February marathon with me… PLEASE DO! We can motivate each other!
