Mondays with Mari. This is Mariska, our sweet friend who is also from South Africa. She found our blog (yup, this blog!) before she moved to Qingdao last year, and we have been getting to know each other more and more since then. She is a Sister in Christ, has a positive outlook on life, and we share the same taste for adventure. The more that we spend time together, the more we learn how similar we are. Since she lives a little further out of Qingdao, and works unfortunate hours, we haven’t been able to spend as much time together as we would have liked. Mariska works all day Saturday and Sunday, but she has Monday and Tuesday off. We have therefore decided to dedicate our Mondays to meeting up for sightseeing. There is still so much that I want to see, and waiting on good weather and minimal pollution on a weekend is beginning to seem futile. Although I would love it if Justin could join us, it is nice to have some “girl time”, and little man Elijah doesn’t mind hanging with us since he gets to venture out, and eat all kinds of yummy snacks.
Yesterday was our first of many Monday meet ups. We took a taxi all the way to the older part of Qingdao, and walked along the beautiful oceanside boardwalk, soaking in the sunshine and blue skies. We had prayed for clear skies, and God graced us with an absolutely spectacular day. No clouds, low pollution, barely any wind, and a wonderfully pleasant temperature. We checked out Zhanqiao Pier, the Sea Palace, Xiao Qingdao, and Luxiun Park. There was so much more that we wanted to see, but alas, there is only so much one can squeeze into a day. With our spirits lifted, and a small taste of all that we are going to see in the upcoming months, we parted ways yesterday knowing that this was going to be an amazing weekly adventure.
More on Mondays with Mari throughout the week (and the next few months).
