Monkey Island, Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
From our large junk boat, we had to transfer to a smaller boat which would take us (and all of our baggage) to Monkey Island. This boat was big enough for everyone to sit comfortably at a table, and we were informed that this is where we would be served lunch.
On our way to Monkey Island.
Quick-fix-bridge to get from the boat to the beach.
The beach was beautiful. Pity that we couldn’t swim. We had been given little notice of what we would be doing on this island. All that we knew was that we could “hike” up the hill, and see monkeys.
Exploring the beach.
The happy couple ❤
We hung out on the beach for a while… Skipping rocks, and taking in the beautiful surroundings.
The monkeys were not too impressed to see us. There were no other tourists on the beach while we were there, however I am sure that boats arrive hourly bring new groups of people to annoy the monkeys.
One of the guests on our tour tried to touch this baby monkey (above). Oh man, if only I had gotten that on video! The monkey flew at him, fangs exposed, shrieking… The fully grown man screamed and ran.
It was priceless!!
Valentino (our tour guide) told us to follow him up the mountain so that we could get a good view of the beaches and surrounding islands.

After a few minutes of steep climbing, it was becoming clear why we should get as high as possible.
The view was phenomenal!

I’m a slow climber, but I tried to keep up.
The rocks started to get harder and harder to climb. The cliff edges were rugged and the rocks very sharp. Although they provided good grip, we knew that one wrong move would lead to many cuts!! Valentino flew up the mountain without a pause, and he kept shouting “Come to the top. Yup. It’s more adventure for you!”
The boys made it to the top before the rest of us.

Ahh… I’m stuck!! I don’t know how to get any further! My legs were too short to make the jump!
“Help me, I’m little!”

After getting our photo fix, we all made our way back down to the beach.
Getting down proved more difficult, and dangerous, than going up!
Restaurant on the beach.
We were served lunch on the boat after we left Monkey Island.
We had certainly worked up an appetite by then!!
Fried Spring Rolls
More French Fries.
I have no idea what this is called,
but it consisted of Lemongrass dipped in some sort of batter, and then deep fried.
Fried fish with salsa topping.
We love Vietnam – So Beautiful!
